Celeste Sugarbaker and Lara Baker-Olin of the Wardrobe Design Studio in Portland, Oregon and Morrison Jackson of The Little Sewing Room, San Dimas, California, have kindly invited Ninya and Jane to present the full Court life and country lore programme at their venues in August 2015.

The Tudor Tailor arrives in Portland on Friday 7 August to give an evening presentation (doors open 5.30pm for a 6.30pm start) and run two full days of workshops on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August (9.30am to 5.30pm).

San Dimas plays host to an evening presentation (doors open 6.15pm for a 7pm start) on Friday 14 August and offers the workshops on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August (9.30am to 5.30pm).

There are 36 places for each day of workshops, offering four activities:

Gather thy thoughts (gain an insight into The Tudor Tailor’s research process); Cut thy cloth (discover how the sixteenth century tailor made the most of his limited resources); Spend thy shillings (assess the appropriateness of modern materials for reconstructing specific Tudor garments); and Slash thy sleeves (explore long-forgotten specialist techniques for transforming plain materials into visually impressive textural delights). Participants experience all four activities during the day. The programme for Saturday and Sunday is the same. Lunch and refreshments are provided.

Tickets for the presentation evenings are $35 (with an early bird offer of $30 if purchased before Sunday 15 March). A workshop day (Saturday or Sunday) is $150. There are deals for participants who book the presentation and the workshops as a package ($170 full price or $150 for early birds).

It would be helpful if locals could book the Sundays leaving the Saturday places for people who are travelling from further away and need to stay overnight to attend the lecture and workshops.

The Tudor Tailor’s presentations are “wickedly funny” according to the Embroiders Guild in the UK. See the duo in action above with Ninya (aka Lady Mary Talbot) getting physical with Jane (aka Nan Gotobed) in the [un]dressing demonstration Court life and country lore.
