Study Day for MEDATS at Norwich Museums: Sixteenth Century Knitting and Textiles

Jane and Ninya ran a study day on xixteenth century knitting and textiles for The Medieval Dress and Textiles Society (MEDATS) at Norwich Museums on Friday 28 February 2020. Participants were split into two groups who were each given plenty of time to examine extant items in the Study centre at Norwich Castle, have a guided tour of Strangers Hall and take part in a work shop with Lesley O’Connell Edwards and Jane exploring the advantages and disadvantages of working from the three different sources (pictorial, archaeological and documentary) alongside skilled makers to reconstruct knitted garments. The two groups were united for a very enjoyable lunch at Stranger’s Hall and again at the end of the day for a stimulating plenary discussion.
